Gate valves are typically used to permit or prevent the flow of liquids and are not recommended for regulating flow. Gate valves with actuators use a threaded stem to connect the actuator to the gate via a drive nut around the threads allowing the nut to be turned with a hand wheel or motor. Gate valves are typically opened and closed using a wheel shaped twist handle with either a rising or a non rising stem or by a plunger. Also known as 3 3 valves these valves close all ports in the off position to stop equipment in a locked position with air pressure holding it in place.
